If Off-White, “The Ten”, Nike, Virgil Abloh are not common to you now, where have you been? Virgil Abloh, creative designer/founder of Off-White, and Nike have put together a capsule of ten classic Nike silhouettes, deconstructing each one with a unique, sketchy feel rarely seen in the clean cut sneaker world. Check out what the collection looks like here.
This past weekend, I picked up a pair of the Off-White x Nike VaporMax after taking part in one of the workshops that were going on in london. Take a look at some of the details that propels this design and the revolutionary technology behind the VaporMax.
The Air Unit
The visible air unit has now reached it’s 30 year legacy, with progression and new innovations still being made around the idea. The VaporMax represents just that, creating an almost “floating” trainer with its translucent base. The new design allows the air unit to act as a standalone outsole, allowing a precise amount of air to be provided with each stride for maximum support and comfort.
The Box
Virgil ABloh switches the common orange Nike box, deciding to invert the colour scheme inside out. Orange coats the inside, while a bland cardboard colour coated the outside, branding the word “SWOOSH”.
The Oversized Tongue and Swoosh
The previous slim tongue seen on past VaporMax models is replaced with a fat tongue traditional of classic sneakers. While an oversized Nike swoosh is cross hatched onto the FlyKnit base, presenting a rough handcrafted but yet carefully thought about design.
